Client Director

Gap toothed, Staffordshire-oatcake-loving upholsterer.

I used to work as a willow-weaver, spending my days in an outdoor workshop open to the elements building willow sculptures. The guys in the workshop had a CD player and only one CD – Queen’s Greatest Hits. Eventually I couldn’t take any more Bohemian Rhapsody, so I left. I still walk out of rooms if Queen songs are playing.

I have always loved making things. Before I found my way into the design industry, I ran craft workshops at a heritage festival in Abu Dhabi – teaching people how to make contemporary pieces using ancient methods. These days, upholstery is my passion. I discovered it a few years ago and I’m hooked. One evening a week I tear apart old chairs and then (very slowly) bring them back to life again.

I am from Stoke-on-Trent but have lived in London for almost 8 years. Does that mean I am southerner now? Or will I always be a northerner? Is Stoke even in ‘the North’? Discuss.
